Introducing Peter Malick: Shining a light on marketing with Lumen Foundry

How I got here…

I’m Peter, CEO and Co-Founder of Lumen Foundry. It’s more than fitting that I introduce myself in a blog post and not a social media blurb, press release, or live video. Why? Last year I saw my business partner Scott Buscemi (CCO & Co-Founder) for the first time at a WordCamp session titled “Blogging Workshop: The 50 Day Blogging Challenge“. He was presenting about the power of blogging.

I was impressed by Scott’s deep knowledge of all things WordPress, as well as his very accessible and welcoming style. After WordCamp OC, I became more engaged in the Southern California WordPress community, and with each meetup, each new event, I’d see Scott. The thing that stood out to me is that Scott operates at a speed that is not shared by many humans.

Although I sometimes have to record what he is saying and then slow it down for playback, we have formed a business partnership. That business is Lumen Foundry. Now my challenge is to keep up with the speed of light!

Music is marketing, marketing is music

I’ve spent pretty much my whole life in and around music. From the first Rock n Roll concert my parents allowed me to attend at age 12, to playing guitar for blues artists like John Lee Hooker and Big Mama Thornton at 17, my teens were consumed by my music.

I played the biggest live show of my life in my 20’s – 75,000 people at the New Jersey Fairgrounds, and in my 40’s I started writing songs which led me to record, produce and perform with Norah Jones. Don’t ask about my 30’s! You would have found me managing a Casino. Unconventional, I know.

Over the past few years, however, I’ve fully immersed myself in the world of marketing. Music is a very mathematical medium – and so is marketing – and that is to say that I have a natural affinity for both. I became a marketer unconsciously. My work in music shifted toward recording and music production, and I needed to find work. This led to a WordPress-based Indie Music Blog that my wife and I started in 2008, which led to my developing marketing hacks that brought music production business my way.

In 2013, a music production seminar that I was promoting led to a conversation with my friend Joe Taupier, who is the President of Pro Audio retailer Westlake Pro. That conversation morphed into my accepting a job building Westlake Pro’s eBay store, and ultimately I became Chief Marketing Officer of what had become the fastest growing retailer in the industry.

I’m looking forward to meeting you

When I was 16, I spent a whole summer listening to Side 2 of James Brown Live at The Apollo, Volume 2. I immersed myself in the groove of that 20 minute live James Brown medley, over and over again, for the entire summer. It was exciting, and it was also musical. I feel that my immersion in the world of marketing has been musical, too. I got in the groove and have stayed there. Now, with Lumen Foundry I get to turn it up to 11.

I also have an affinity for problem solving, and that is the skill I bring to Lumen Foundry. That is the skill I aspire to make more and more valuable. I look forward to meeting clients who have come here with Scott from Luminary, and I’m equally excited to forge new relationships.

The team that Scott and I have assembled is nothing short of amazing. Reach out to us with your challenges and inspiration. We are ready to craft a plan that will trigger actionable results. We are in this for the long haul, and want each of you to remain happy and successful partners who are perpetually in the groove. Let’s talk!
